Welcome
The primary mission of the Kendall And Taylor Atkinson Foundation (KATA) is to support scientific and medical research of effective treatments and a cure for Fanconi anemia (FA), a deadly blood disease. Research is supported through the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund.
"The Fanconi Anemia Research Fund is the single best orphan disease research support group in the world. It is a model for demonstrating how a small group of dedicated families can speed the pace of scientific progress and bring realistic hope to patients with an otherwise fatal disorder."
- David Nathan, MD Distinguished Professor Harvard Medical School; Winner, National Medal of Science, 1990.
With the commitment to reflect the lives and hearts of Kendall and Taylor, KATA also gives to causes that improve the lives of children living with adversity.
KATA is governed by a nine member Board of Directors that is committed to minimizing costs in order to maximize the impact of money raised. In 2009, fundraising costs were less than 6% and administrative costs less than 3%.

In 2009
- $100,500 was given toward the funding of research conducted by Jakub Tolar, MD, Ph.D, University of Minnesota, entitled "Correction of Human FA-Induced Pluripotent Cells by Recombination". This study is a promising effort to identify an effective method of gene therapy which would safely correct the blood stem cells of FA patients. The potential application to other genetic diseases is unlimited.
- $25,300 went to complete the funding of the 2nd KATA sponsored handicap-equipped cabin at Camp Barnabas.
- $200 was given to the Champa House for children's books.
In 2008:
- $107,000 was given toward the funding of a collaborative study by 4 prestigious laboratories entitled "Screening for Therapeutics in Fanconi Anemia". The study will focus on the possible use of small molecules in treating or correcting Fanconi anemia.
- $32,000 was given for the partial funding of a 2nd handicap equipped cabin at Camp Barnabas.
In 2007:
- Over $105,000 was given for research selectively targeted by FA Research Fund.
